HARYANA

  • Bill to curb Haryana legislators’ pension

  • The Haryana Government will table a Bill that aims to put curbs on exaggerated pension being drawn by MLAs.

  • The MLAs currently get 245 per cent dearness allowance on their pension and the pension increases with each term.

  • While one-time MLAs get nearly Rs 50,000 as pension, two-time MLAs receive Rs 90,000 and those elected four or five times get Rs 2 lakh and Rs 2.5 lakh, respectively.

  • Under the Bill, the first-time MLA will get Rs 50,000 per month as pension upon retirement with an increment of Rs 2,000 every year. However, the dearness allowance allowed to them will not be 245 per cent. Rather it will be the same as the government employees are drawing today — 5 per cent.

  • One-time MLAs who have completed their term before 2016 and get pension over Rs 50,000, their salary over Rs 50,000 will be categorised as “dearness allowances fixed”. Such MLAs will also get 5 per cent DA in the future.

  • The pension of those who have been elected more than one time will be calculated by adding Rs 2,000 for each year of the total term to Rs 50,000.
