Haryana to expand single-point connection, HERC okays 10,000 smart meters

After launching the scheme in selective group housing societies of Faridabad and Gurgaon, electricity distribution companies are all set to expand the networking of single-point connections for the colonies, commercial centres and in the rural areas.
This comes along with the electricity distribution companies’ plans to install 10,000 prepaid smart electricity meters in the urban areas to make supply and collection of revenue more effective.

Targeted to assess real time energy consumption, Haryana discoms — UHBVN and DHBVN — plan to install meters covering its consumers in Panipat, Faridabad, Hisar and other districts by March 31.

The concept of single-point connection was launched in the state in 2014 after it got the go ahead from electricity regulator HERC.

In this system, electricity distribution companies provide one connection following this the sub connections are issued by the builders or society managing the group housing. Since maintaining accounts is responsibility of society, the societies are given concession in electricity tariff in addition of being charged for bulk rates.

Once the system is launched in the government colonies, shopping malls and institutions, it will be also be introduced in rural areas where companies enjoy good presence.
